Flat design, while I don’t agree with all cheering it is a trend I suspect we’ll be seeing much more of in the coming year. I do think that affordance is critical in successful interaction design. Designers need to be mindful of losing that – but there is a balance to be struck.

Two great pieces – Brad’s initial call and Dan’s response – are being discussed this week. I recommend checking both out and spending a bit of time in the comments. It’s a new era – but fundamentally it comes down to creating the deliverables needed to communicate intent, value and requirements. Comps serve a variety of functions but ultimately I think we’re driving to a clickable/touchable prototype phase that communicates more than pixel location and hue/saturation. Product design, prototypes, models aren’t new to many disciplines, it’s high time they become part of ours.
