WSJ Iowa Food Article
The Wall Street Journal published an article on Iowa restaurants last week…it was an odd collection of places but overall great coverage and positive at that. We’ve lived very near Bistro Montage most of the years we’ve been in Des Moines and never been there, walked by countless times…might be time to remedy that.
Gordon Ramsay on QTV
I could watch/listen to this for hours. His passion, skill and desire to share his insight is overwhelming. His points on junk, discipline, accountability are right on. Good stuff.
Young Foodie’s Day at Per Se
There’s so passion and wonderfully articulated joy in this ‘post’ (school paper) I’ve gone back to re-read it twice. I have a feeling much of what he feels I’d share, although his daring and openness to some of these dishes would be a bigger jump for me. At fifteen this foodie has done more and written about it with more clarity and awareness than people 2-3 times his age. Stunning. And if you’re going to have an idol, you could do far worse than Thomas Keller.
I have some big plans for food related projects in 2009 so stay tuned, cheers!

Virtual Lobsterman
This is a pretty impressive idea. While not for the faint of wallet, Catch a Piece of Maine allows you to purchase a Maine lobsterman and trap for a year. So anytime you want a lobster dinner sent next-day anywhere in the states, you just logon and hit go. Pricey, but a very cool idea.
It’s Only a Meal
Seriously, 1,000 Kottke words to describe the merits of a flash-based online reservation scheme for an NYC restaurant. It’s about the food, the experience of eating and being served – not about the experience to get a reservation – that matters. Scrap the lame setup and just take a reservation and serve great food. If you checked out the Thomas Keller interview on Charlie Rose you heard one constant theme – simplicity and perfection. Sounds like the Momofuku reservation system is neither – so take a step back and simplify.
