C’mon Liverpool, VAG Rounded Isn’t For You

Football Jersey Fonts – I typically don’t have a problem with Euro-design, but I have to say not a single one of these jerseys look very good. Maybe Portugal, but that’s a stretch. Who designs these and why is Linotype so proud to show them?

Each football team has its own visual identity, and the appearance of their logos and jerseys are one of the most exciting areas of graphic design. And it is no surprise that fonts play a strong role!

A strong, but not particularly impressive role. The logos are entirely different, I could look at football crests and logos all day long.

Appeal to QuickSilver Users

Does anyone know of a complete and usable list of QuickSilver plug-ins? The best I’ve found is the QuickSliver 3rd Party Forum and it’s wildly unusable.

Also if you know of a quickstart guide for QS I’d love to see it. SO much power in that app, but a bit of a learning curve to make it truly efficient.

Random Referrers Thursday

Since installing Mint a few months back I’ve loved digging through the referrers just to see under which rocks people find this site. So Each Thursday I’ll post a few I think are amusing.

Blog Design Podcast

Brian at Weblogs Work has posted his latest worknotes podcast. Thanks to Josh and Brian for the invitation and opportunity to participate in the discussion.

This is my first real podcast and I noticed that I really need to work on my “ohs”, “ums” and rambling. I’ll try and do better next time.

Putting Up

As opposed to shutting up…

Only a couple of hours invested but as you can see quite a difference.

The Value of Design in Black & White

I don’t want to beat a dead horse but there’s a design issue that drives me nuts. We all know that there are thousands of ways design (or undesign) impacts us on any given day.

So for me, one great example of design vs (un)design – magnolia vs delicious as it were – is newspaper website design. In general I think 99.9% of online paper design is awful. Most papers have failed to leap the chasm into the digital age. Yes they have technology and yes they may use bolgs and RSS and mobile connections, etc. But they still don’t “get” designing for their online audience. As an Orlando resident the Sentinel is my daily read and I have to hold my nose every time that homepage loads. In an effort to understand why it offends me so I broke it down and placed it up against the New York Times. Check out the breakdown below and see what you think. I believe it’s fair to say the Sentinel is a little heavy on navigation and monkey ads.

$100 million Vanilla, Please

Disney will be turning the spin off for one of two of it’s Mission Space ride queues this summer. Two deaths in year mean that it has to (partially) abandon it’s $100 million investment in this innovative experience.

Beginning this summer guests will have two choices when riding Epcot’s Mission: Space. Visitors can either go on the current attraction or a new version which will provide a milder no-spin experience. In the new version, the spinning centrifuge will be turned off for guests who are subject to motion sickness or have other health issues. Signs will be posted in the queue area outlining the differences between the two rides. “By offering a second adventure, we hope to broaden the appeal of “Mission: Space” and enable even more guests to experience the attraction,” said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort.
